The Notebook

That didn’t take long…

Only two months before I forgot about my newsletter entirely. Then suddenly it’s June, I get a newsletter from someone else I follow, and it’s like, “Oh crap, I have one of those, too, don’t I?”

And it’s not like I’m over here crunching numbers and trying to figure out exactly how many pennies I make per view and cross-reference that with recent sales and yadda yadda. I get busy. I get bored. So this might be late, but it’s better than never, I guess?

Old Business

I am currently on the final edit for Turning Point (The Chivalrous Welshman #9), going through each chapter for final checks and revisions before converting them to ebook. It’s exciting but also nerve-wracking. I mean, what if I miss something? What about that typo in Chapter Fourteen, Paragraph Five, Sentence Four, Word Two?

The final edit is also when I actually number my print pages, as a kind of completion marker. When I released Synchronization (The Chivalrous Welshman #8), I realized that I had forgotten to export the publisher file and uploaded the non-final version, and the only reason I knew that was because when I looked at the proof, the last hundred pages or so weren’t numbered. So that was fun.

And so, after several rewrites, Turning Point nears completion. It’s definitely richer now, ties in much better within the series as a whole. Stupid world traveling chapter got replaced with a universe-hopping adventure. Another stupid chapter was replaced with Tommen breaking into a courthouse. And other dumb passages were livened up. I’m really happy with it now.

All of these changes have also seen the introduction of a new* character (new to TCW, already in THoT) a whole book earlier. Originally, Godwin Lore did not make his TCW debut until The Eleventh Hour (TCW #10/F), but this rewrite has brought him in earlier, and it just makes a lot more sense. A 1,000 year old mercenary, and the closest thing Rifun has to a friend, I mean, what could go wrong?

New Business

So with all these changes to Turning Point, The Eleventh Hour is going to have to undergo some changes as well. The good news is that I have a year to do it (*starts procrastination clock*). I mean, I’ll still be writing The Akari-Bearer books at the same time, but I don’t think the load is going to be as gruesome as originally thought.

I haven’t made any real progress on Bearer of Bad News (The Akari-Bearer #1), but then, I’ve been working on polishing and releasing Turning Point, so…

Turning Point is scheduled to release July 5.

Fun Factoid

Godwin Lore did not originally exist until the second draft of The Eleventh Hour, and he wasn’t even much of a character until I started editing The Hand Holding the Knife (The Hands of Time #3/F). But, as certain needs came up, his character slid perfectly into those roles, and a real character was born. Although he does not become more than a strong secondary character, he is still a potent force and a powerful tool in the gang’s arsenal.

Other News

Well, I started a new job, working as a helicopter ground crew operator. It’s fun, it really is. I enjoy it. Load, unload, clear, and, if things are slow, go out and tool around just for fun. And the pilot and the rest of the crew are awesome. I just wish we were a smidge busier. Just a tiny bit.

Other than that, we got the trees down that we needed to clear. Still clearing brush, but then it’ll be time for excavators, gravel, and then maybe, just maybe, we can start building.
