TL;DR: Very fun story. Intended to be a series, but works just fine as a single.

Who knew the Stone Age could be so much fun? The prose takes a little getting used to, but it is used very well as a tool to capture the mindset of the main character as he morphs from a hopeless addict into a real man.
If I have any complaint, it's that some things feel like they modernize too quickly over the course of the story, and I don't mean MC introducing kilns and clay pottery. It could be that things would make more sense if MC were capable of appreciating it rather than craving his drugs and alcohol. But one scene with a traveller (whose existence is never alluded to until the end) would do wonders to tie the middle and end together.
The story is intended to be a series. This is alluded to both in the metadata, and there are a few small questions that could stand to be answered. Unfortunately, there is yet to be a second book. Even checking the author's website produces no tangible timeline. At the same time, this book is tight enough that it feels unnecessary, and it works just fine on its own.
